Basecamp Coffee Company is owned and operated by Hayden Ort-Ulm. Hayden started roasting coffee as most people do, at his parent’s house on a whirley-pop popcorn maker. At that time he had recently moved back to Cumberland from Seattle Washington where he started developing an interest in the coffee supply chain, and how one product can produce so many different flavors.
Bringing his growing interest and passion for coffee back to Cumberland, he purchased his first coffee roaster from Buckeye Coffee Company based out of Arizona and moved from a shed out on his parent’s farm to a production facility in close by LaVale Maryland. The first roaster is a 2 Kilo and these days is used mostly for sample roasting. Basecamp has recently graduated to a 7 Kilo production roaster providing coffee to both our shop and several restaurants and coffee shops in the area. Basecamp is proud to be a part of the community and have their support.
Much of our raw product is sourced from Royal Coffee, who we trust to bring us quality beans from farms that use ethical practices in regards to our planet and fellow humans. Although not all of the farms we source from have afforded themselves such labels as “fair-trade” or “organic” we do source from origins using these methods. We believe that more of the money spent on the final cup of coffee goes to the farmers when they are not paying for such labels.
We have traveled internationally to bring our customers not only great coffee, but a great experience as well. We have just celebrated out 5 year anniversary as a company and our 1 year anniversary at our location in the heart of Cumberland. A our Greene Street shop we offer a full espresso line, house made flavors, batch brew coffees, tea, cold brew and more, all using our own fresh roasted beans. We are up to date on the best equipment and methods being used in the finest coffee shops.
Whether you are passing through, visiting family and friends, or live in the neighborhood, we look forward to seeing you at our shop.
